A violinist Vladimir Ivanov was born 1948 in Moscow. He began playing the violin at the age of 6 with V.Vulfman and showed an unusual gift. At the age of 10 he began studying under the guidance of a well-known teacher, professor Yury Yankelevich.


The violinist’s first recital took place in the Ukraine in 1965. The following year, he performed with a symphony orchestra in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. In 1967 the young musician took his talent abroad for the first time. His performance in the major cities of Yugoslavia with a group of young Soviet musicians were a great success.


The same year (1967) V.Ivanov entered the Moscow Tchaikovsky’s Conservatory where he continued studying under the guidance of Professor Yury Yankelevich (assistant—M..Glezarova), with whom he later studied at the post-graduate level.


In 1972 V. Ivanov won First Prize at the Bach International Competition in Leipzig. The press of different countries began to write about him: “The violinist has a perfect command of various bowing skills matched by remarkable taste” (Neues Deutschland). “Perfect stylistic handling and deep insight into Bach’s works were equally appealing both to the jury and the public” (Neue Zeitschrift fur Musik).


The symphony orchestra of the Moscow State Conservatory, where he was the leader at that time, won the First Prize at the International Competition of Young Orchestras “The Fund of Herbert von Karajan” in Berlin. In 1974 at the International Katya Popova Festival in Bulgaria V.Ivanov was awarded the Gold Medal.


Vladimir Ivanov tours frequently as a soloist and has performed with many symphony orchestras in Germany, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, in the Republics of the former Soviet Union. He has also made several radio and TV recordings. He has a large repertoire.


Vladimir Ivanov’s creative activities, his talent and mastery of the violin have attracted the attention of leading critics: “Vladimir Ivanov is distinguished by his expressive tone quality, brilliant technique and his thoughtful treatment of the work performed...” (The Lithuanian newspaper “Tiesa”).

Since 1976, V.Ivanov has been a member of the Moscow Piano Trio, famous both in Russia and abroad. The same year this ensemble was a success at the “Musical May” Festival (Bordeaux, France) and received the Gold Medal “Maurice Ravel”. V.Ivanov tours the world with the Trio. M.Ivanov has a reputation as an ensemble-player of the highest class.


Together with his colleagues in Trio, the cellist M.Utkin and pianist A.Bonduriansky—V.Ivanov has performed the Triple Concerto by Beethoven with symphony orchestras in Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Romania, Yugoslavia on many occasions.


Since 1974 V.Ivanov has taught at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory and is currently Professor and Chairman of the Violin Department. He also conducts master classes internationally.

V.Ivanov and his collegues were given the titles of Honored Artists (1986), People’s Artists of Russia (1994) and the Prize of the City of Moscow (1997).
