Chamber Choir of Moscow Conservatory (Choir)

The Chamber Choir of the Moscow Conservatoire was created by Professor Boris Tevlin in 1994. The performance staff contained of students and post-graduate students of choral conducting department of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire.

The Choir won the award of “Grand Prix” and two gold medals at the International Choir Competition in Riva del Garda (Italy, 1998); as well as First Prize and Gold Medal at the First International Choir Competition in Vernigerode (Germany, 1999). In July 2000, the Choir was awarded First Prize at the First World Choral Olympiad in Linz (Austria).

The Choir won the First Prize at the XXII International Competition of Orthodox Church music “Khainuvka” (Poland, 2003).

In 2002 the Chamber Choir was the only Russian choir representing the home choral art at Sixth World Symposium on Choral Music in Minneapolis (USA).

The Chamber Choir of Moscow Conservatory is a participant in a great number of international music festivals, such as: “Lockenhaus-95” (Austria); “Sofia Gubaidullina” (Zurich, Switzerland, 1996); “La fabrica del canto” (Italy, 1998); “Moscow Fall” (1996-2001); “December eves of Sviatoslav Richter” (1999); “100 years to Big Hall of Conservatoire” (Moscow, 2001); “Prokofiev‘s Spring” (Ukraine, 2001); Ist and IInd Moscow Easter festival (art director V.Gergiev, 2002/2003); IXth Uzedom music festival (Germany, 2002); “Rodion Shchedrin. Autobiography” (Moscow, 2002); “Youth Academies of Russia” (art director A.Tchaikovsky, Moscow, 2002); “International Music Festival “Musical Kremlin” (art director N.Petrov, Moscow, 2003), etc.

In the course of years of its existence the Chamber Choir under management of Boris Tevlin has presented its listeners a big number of world and Russian premieres of choral pieces, and in there number were the ones composed by E.Denisov, N.Sidelnikov, I.Stravinsky, A.Shnitke, A.Schoenberg, S.Gubaidullina, G.Kancheli, R.Ledenev, R.Shchedrin, K.Nustedt, K.Penderetsky, I.Svider, J.Tavener, R.Tvardovsky, etc.

The repertory includes great samples of Russian spiritual music–pieces by D.Bortniansky, A.Grechaninov,S.Rachmaninov, P.Tchaikovsky, interpretations of folk songs and choral arrangements of popular songs.

The Chamber Choir of the Moscow Conservatory is co-operating with leading orchestras of Russia: State Academic Symphony Orchestra (art director M.Gorenshtein); State Symphony Orchestra “New Russia” (art director Y.Bashmet), Academic Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Philharmony (art director Yu.Simonov), “Musica Viva” (art director A.Rudin), Chamber Orchestra “Moscovia” (art director E.Grach).

Many outstanding modern musicians performed with the Chamber Choir: viola-player Y.Bashmet; violinists G.Kremer and S.Kravchenko; violoncellists I.Monigetti (Switzerland), V.Tonkha; oboist A.Ogrinchuk; pianists D.Bashkirov, N.Petrov, D.Kramer, E.Mechetina, Y.Martynov, I.Korotkova; conductors M.Gorenshtein, L.Nikolaev, V.Pon’kin, A.Rudin, A.Sladkovsky, Yu.Simonov, V.Ziva, D.Kakhidze (Georgia), R.Lew (Netherlands), E.Ericson (Sweden), U.Frantz (Germany), F.Hemphling (Germany) etc.
