Ballet Show "Summer Seasons" by Russian National Ballet Theatre
01 July 2021 - 22 August 2021

SCHEDULE 01 July 2021 - 22 August 2021

Summer Ballet Seasons in Moscow are an integral part of the summertime cultural life that already became a tradition: the Seasons have been an annual fixture of the cultural calendar since 2001.

The SUMMER BALLET SEASONS were founded in 2001 and immediately attracted the attention of audiences. The repertoire of the Seasons consists of classics performed by promising and prominent Russian ballet companies.

More than 400,000 people have visited performances of the Seasons during these years.
In 2001, the project was planned as the means to settle tourist problems - in the period of summer vacations, closed theatres and concert halls, it was impossible to form a worthy cultural program for foreign tourists. Time passed, and today the Seasons have turned into a prominent cultural event in Moscow. The performances of all the ballet companies, participating in Summer Ballet Seasons, are a great rarity in their own country, as they tour abroad most of the year. For example Moscow City Ballet had 16 annual tours and more than 1500 performances just in the UK !

The conception of the Summer Ballet Seasons is to cherish the inherited treasures of the Russian national culture.

The performances traditionally take place in the very heart of Moscow in the old Russian National Theatre next to the World Known Bolshoi and opposite the Kremlin and Red Square.

Russian
National
Theatre

This summer from July 1 to August 22 Russian Academic Youth Theater is about tо host the 20th annual fixture of Summer Ballet Seasons!

This includes three ballets by Pyotr Tchaikovsky – Swan Lake (traditionally opening and completing the Seasons), The Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker, as well as Giselle by Adolphe Adan, Don Quixote and La Bayadere by Ludwig Minkus, Romeo and Juliet and Cinderella by Sergei Prokofiev, etc.

These ballets will be shown in classical versions by Russia's top choreographers – Marius Petipa, Vasili Vainonen, Leonid Lavrovsky, as well as in modern choreography reserving the classical basis. This concentration of world's best masterpieces is the crown jewel of Moscow's summer cultural life! Summer Ballet Seasons feature leading choreographic troupes with repertory based on ballet classics.

"In 2001, when we suggested for the first time that the viewers don't go away for summer vacations and go to the ballet instead, we were mainly counting on foreign tourists. Now it is definitely no exaggeration to say that our international project has become a crucial part of the capital's cultural life in the summer", says Alla Nemodruk, the founder and artistic director of the project.

Indeed, over the years the idea won quite a few avid followers among Moscow's theater-goers and guests of the capital from Russian provinces. More than one millon viewers attended the Summer Ballet Seasons in the last eighteen years! It is safe to say that these ballet performances have grown to be Moscow's event and a popular summertime tradition. A great opportunity for mass viewers to discover the art of ballet (partly thanks to a very democratic ticket pricing), the Seasons offer a chance for ballet connoisseurs to compare different choreographers' interpretations: most ballets will be shown several times, performed by different troupes.
