Concert Russian state academic chamber "Vivaldi-orchestra" Moscow State Conservatory (Grand Hall)
Schedule for Russian state academic chamber "Vivaldi-orchestra" 2022
Conductor: Svetlana Bezrodnaya
Svetlana Bezrodnaya, the well-known Russian violinist, founder and artistic director of the Vivaldi-Orchestra, has turned 70.
Vivaldi-Orchestra, celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, is a veritably unique collective. All of its 18 musicians are women in their 20s. Three centuries ago the famous Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi was music director of a girls’ orphanage in Venice. Many of his now very popular pieces were written as "teaching scores" for his young students. Says Svetlana Bezrodnaya: "Vivaldi is an extraordinary personality. A priest, he was nevertheless a contemporary man from our point of view - a padre and music professor. Regrettably, the music he wrote for orphan girls didn’t find its way to stage. That’s why I made up my mind to set up a women’s ensemble modeled after Vivaldi’s orchestra".
Vivaldi-Orchestra performs both popular and lesser-known music by the Italian composer, including psalms and instrumental concertos. Its current repertoire numbers about 500 pieces spanning a vast historical period from the 17th to the 20th centuries.
"We play music by other composers, too", Svetlana Bezrodnaya says. "Our repertoire comprises music of various styles and epochs, not just Italian baroque, and also contemporary music. The wide range of pieces that flow together into one stream makes our musical palette so interesting and diverse".
Concerts by Vivaldi-Orchestra have something of a theatrical performance with Svetlana Bezrodnaya acting as a soloist, conductor and director of her fascinating programs totaling around 80, the most original of them being "Marlene. Meetings That Never Took Place" - a performance devoted to Marlene Dietrich and featuring German and Russian pop music of the 1930s and 40s.
Vivaldi-Orchestra has performed in Germany, the United States, Austria, Finland, Spain, Hong Kong and many other countries, and the reviews were invariably glowing. Critics praise its impeccable style and elegant looks. Costumes for Vivaldi-Orchestra musicians were designed by the well-known Russian couturier Vyacheslav Zaitsev. Svetlana Bezrodnaya is firmly convinced that apart from being a high-skilled professional, a musician must also know how to present himself.
