Stanislav Kochanovsky (Conductor)

Chief Conductor
of State Safonov Philharmonic Orchestra

Stanislav Kochanovsky was born in St. Petersburg and studied at the Glinka Choir School. He graduated with honors at the famous St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire studying choral conducting with Prof. Tatiana  Khitrova (2004), organ with Prof. Nina Oksentyan (2004) and opera-symphonic conducting with Prof. Alexander Titov (2008).

In 2010 Stanislav was appointed Principal conductor of the State Safonov Philharmonic Orchestra. His activity already includes more than 50 symphonic programs, 5 festivals and 7 opera productions. Highlights were Scriabin's Prometheus “Poem of fire” and Symphony No.3 “Le Divin Poeme”, Rachmaninov Cycle including new Aleko production, Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde.

First opera engagements took him in season 2006/2007 to St. Petersburg's Chamber Opera, Rimsky-Korsakov Theatre of Conservatory, Theatre of Musical Comedy and to Moscow's New Opera. In 2007 began an intensive collaboration with the Mikhailovsky Theatre which brought over sixty opera and ballet performances as well as a London Coliseum debut.

As a guest conductor Kochanovsky has worked on new opera productions at the Mariinsky Theatre and the Flemish Opera in Belgium. Stanislav Kochanovsky has more than thirty operas and ballets in his repertoire.

2013 brought an invitation to conduct a Stars of the White Nights festival concert with the Mariinsky Orchestra. Kochanovsky also collaborates with the Moscow and St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestras, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia, the State Symphony Orchestra Novaya Rossiya, the State Academic Cappella and Hermitage Orchestras.

In addition to his posts in Russia, his international career is also developing quickly. Debut appearances in recent years have taken him to the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Hamburger Symphoniker, the Finnish Radio Symphony, the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, I Pomeriggi Musicali, the Orchestra Sinfonica Tito Schipa, the Lithuanian Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Symphony Orchestra, the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, the Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra.

In April 2014 he made his debut with the orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. “Stanislav Kochanovsky has been a true revelation. He is a young conductor ready to be one of the protagonists of the musical life of the future. He showed such a ductility and a talent, as well as a way to galvanise and lead the orchestra that one is reminded of older maestri. It has been a wonderful discovery... A beautiful performance, where there is a force, a brilliancy but at the same time a wonderful clarity and lyricism,” declared the journalist Michele Suozzo on RAI Radio 3 after the live broadcast.

Highlights of forthcoming seasons include his debuts with the Filarmonica della Scala, the Orchestre National d’Île-de-France, the Noord Nederlands Orchestra, debut in Mannheim Opera (Germany) and a tour with Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi in Teatro La Fenice.
