Schedule for State quartet of a name of Borodin’s 2022

Ruben AHARONIAN (1st violin)
Andrei ABRAMENKOV (2nd violin)

Valentin BERLINSKY (cello)

One of the major quartets of our time, the Borodin String Quartet is embarking on its 60th anniversary season, performing repertoire ranging from Mozart to Stravinsky. The Borodin Quartet’s particular affinity with Russian repertoire was stimulated by their early close relationship with Shostakovich, who personally supervised their study of each of his quartets. Widely regarded as definitive interpretations, the Quartet has performed cycles of the complete Shostakovich quartets all over the world, including Vienna, Zurich, Frankfurt, Madrid, Lisbon, Seville, London, Paris and New York. The Borodin String Quartet was formed in 1945 by four students from the Moscow Conservatoire and changed its name from the Moscow Philharmonic Quartet to the Borodin Quartet ten years later. Cellist Valentin Berlinsky was one of the founding members of the Quartet 60 years ago. Andrei Abramenkov became a member in 1975 andRuben Aharonian and Igor Naidin became members in 1996. Each member has been honoured with awards and critical recognition individually. Aharonian has won prizes at international competitions including the Enescu, Montreal and Tchaikovsky Competitions. Valentin Berlinsky’s 75th birthday and the 55th anniversary of the Borodin Quartet in January 2000 were celebrated with gala concerts in Moscow and at London’s Wigmore Hall. That summer, a major new project, Beethoven and Shostakovich: Parallels and Diversities, was inaugurated at the Aldeburgh Festival, and continued at the Wigmore Hall and the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival. In recent seasons the Quartet has returned to a broader repertoire including works by Schubert, Prokofiev, Borodin and Tchaikovsky and has continued to perform at the most prestigious venues in North America, Russia, the Far East and Europe. The Borodin Quartet has produced a rich heritage of recordings over several decades. The Quartet’s recordings for Teldec, including Tchaikovsky’s Quartets and Souvenir de Florence, Schubert’s String Quintet, Haydn’s Seven Last Words and a disc of Russian Miniatures, all received great critical acclaim. The Tchaikovsky disc was honoured with a Gramophone Award in 1994. For their 60th Anniversary Season, the Borodin String Quartet will perform cycles of the complete Beethoven quartets at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and Vienna Musikverein. They will also be heard in recital in Madrid, Rotterdam, Brussels, Geneva, Munich, Lisbon, Barcelona, Athens, Cologne, Istanbul, Zurich, Berlin, Moscow, New York and London playing the music of Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Shostakovich - and of course Borodin. Chandos records are in the process of recording and releasing the complete Beethoven quartets as part of the 60th anniversary celebration. The Quartet’s first release on the ONYX label is a 60th Anniversary CD, featuring Borodin, Schubert, Webern and Rachmaninov.
