Synopsis
ACT 1
In yet another battle, the Persian King Khir, founder of the Ahemenid empire defeats the sac tribe. The tribe goes into deep mourning burying their chief. Now his wife Tomiris succeeds the throne. But a duel solves the problem, and Tomiris is defeated.
While back at Khir’s palace, Frada who has betrayed his people tells the King that one of his subordinates has proclaimed independence. The ruler is furious and ready to wage a campaign against the rising tribe, but Frada distracts him by telling him about the beauty of the sac queen. Without seeing her, Khir fails in love with Tomiris. He immediately sends out a delegation headed by Frada, carrying gifts and the crown, symbolizing the King,s proposal to Tomiris to become his wife.
Celebrations for Spargana and Rayada’s wedding is in full swing. The revelry is suddenly interrupted by the arrival of the Persian envoys headed by Frada, who is here to deliver the proposal of marriage. Tomiris is confused, as she knows she is still very young and beautiful but is attracted by the idea of marrying the “King of Kings”. She also understands that to accept the proposal means to betray her people, while to decline the proposal will mean war. Tomiris chooses the latter in the name of freedom.
АСT II
Khir awaits the response from Tomiris. The envoys return with the crown, declined by the sac queen and Frada gives it back to back to the King, who severely punishes Frada. Now nothing can stop Khir from waging war against the sac tribe and subjugating queen Tomiris.
Rayada and Spargana are wondering about, and are suddenly taken prisoners of war by the Persian troops. Frada informs the King that Sparagana is the son of Tomiris and Khir is happy, as he now knows that Tomiris will come to him by her own will.
The King gives Rayada the Amulet taken away from Spargana and orders her to deliver it to Tomiris. At that moment, the sac fighters enter and a bloody battle begins. Tomiris is in despair as the only way she can save her son is in exchange for her subordination to Khir. But Spargana decides his fate for himself - he commits suicide. Tomiris is filled with grief, but hatred for her son’s killer gives her new strength. In a fierce fight, Tomiris kills the “King of the Kings”.
It is dawn and Tomiris, filled with pride stands in the rising sun with Persian troops kneeling before her. Tomiris breaks a sword symbolizing war, into pieces. The broken sword shows that it is impossible to rule the people with the aid of arms and violence. The sac people glorify a new peaceful day.
