Yuri Zhislin (Violin soloist)

Born in 1974, Yuri studied the violin at the Moscow Gnessin Music School for musically gifted children with Ms Svetlova and later at the Royal College of Music with his father, Grigori Zhislin and Dr Felix Andrievsky.

During his school years, Yuri frequently appeared as a soloist with the school orchestras, representing the School in major Russian cities and in Europe. He won the Dvarionas International Competition for young musicians in Lithuania in 1989 and same year made a number of broadcasts for the Russian Radio and Television.

Having received his ARCM Diploma with Honours, Yuri represented the College in concerts throughout Europe: Helsinki, Stockholm, Oslo, Madrid and Brussels.

Yuri is a Laureate and major prize-winner of various international competitions: the Carmel Competition in California, Premio Trio di Trieste in Italy, Pablo Sarasate in Spain and Douai Violin Competition in France among others.

e appeared in major concert halls throughout the world, performing at the Wigmore Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Purcell Room, the Concertgebouw and gave recitals and performed with various orchestras in his native Russia and in the UK, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Spain, France, Germany, Yugoslavia, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, the USA, Australia and New Zealand. Yuri has made a number of recordings and appeared in live broadcasts on the BBC Radio Two, Radio Three and various classical networks throughout Europe and the USA.

Recent seasons saw him perform with the BBC Concert Orchestra, the London Mozart Players, the Belgrade Philharmonic, the Lublin Philharmonic, the Louisiana Strings, the Asturias Symphony Orchestra and the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra.

The conductors Yuri colaborated with include Olari Elts, Barry Wandsworth, Alexander Markovich, Yakov Voldman, Alex Walker, Misha Rakhlevsky, Dragomir Yossifov and Maximiano Valdes among many others.

Yuri is in high demand at the international festivals around the world. He appears as a soloist and a chamber musician in festivals throughout the UK: Bath, Chichester, Cheltenham, Windsor, Ulverston, and the Asturias Festivities (Spain), Cadaques (Spain), Seattle (USA), Baku (Azerbaijan), Hohenems (Austria), March Music Days in Rousse (Bulgaria), Varberg (Sweden), Paphos (Cyprus) and in Gensac (France) among others.

s a violist, Yuri regularly appears in a String Trio with the eminent Russian violinist Dmitry Sitkovetsky and outstanding young Armenian cellist Alexander Chaushian. Yuri has made his viola concerto debut in October 2005, performing Hindemith‘s "Der Schwanendreher" Viola Concerto in Zaragoza, Spain.

Yuri is a founder and Artistic Director of the Russian Virtuosi of Europe - an ensemble that brings together some of the finest Russian musicians who are now based in Western Europe. He is an Artistic Director of the Evaristo Valle International Music Festival in Spain and professor of violin at the Royal College of Music in London.
